Heat Pump

A heat pump uses electricity and refrigerant to move heat from one location to another. Heat pump works on a reverse Carnot thermodynamic cycle.
To provide heat, a heat pump works by extracting heat from the waste air or water outside through a heat exchanger unit and transferring it to refrigerant – the refrigerant is then compressed, which increases the temperature significantly, the refrigerant is then moved to an heat exchanger unit of the heat pump, which then passes air or water over the hot refrigerant, increasing its temperature to accommodate as per the need of application.

Working

A Carnot cycle is defined as an ideal reversible closed thermodynamic cycle. Four successive operations are involved: isothermal expansion, adiabatic expansion, isothermal compression, and adiabatic compression. During these operations, the expansion and compression of the substance can be done up to the desired point and back to the initial state.
